What must be done by the deadline?

By 1 January 2027, every dwelling must have:

  • Interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms compliant with AS3786-2014.
  • Smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey.
  • Alarms that are hardwired or fitted with a non-removable 10-year battery.
