A reminder that all Queensland residential properties, including units, townhouses and apartments, must be fully compliant with updated smoke alarm laws by 1 January 2027.
What must be done by the deadline?
By 1 January 2027, every dwelling must have:
- Interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms compliant with AS3786‑2014.
- Smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey.
- Alarms that are hardwired or fitted with a non-removable 10-year battery.
- Devices that trigger simultaneously when any alarm detects smoke.
